A stonemason’s hammer is to a stonemason a bit like a plunger is for a plumber – absolutely essential.
Also known as a brick hammer, it has one flat face and one short chisel shaped blade. There are variations of the Stonemason’s hammer with longer chisel blades.
What are they used for?
A stonemason’s hammer is used to chipping away and removing smaller pieces of stone without the need for a dedicated chisel.
While we in the trade refer to it as a stonemason’s hammer, the exact same device is used by geologists when collecting rocks and minerals.
